Challenge B

„The Boxenluder“

Proposed by T-Systems

Title long version for detail page: The Boxenluder – Support the medical pit crew and win the race against time and costs in healthcare technology.

Background

Time is always crucial in patient care but why are doctors in hospitals plagued by so many nonsensical processes? Especially in an ER setting things need to work like a well oiled machine.

Problem

In reality teams in an ER or in hospitals in general cannot function like a well-trained pit crew despite modern technology and numerous attempts in process reorganization. Quite often equipment necessary to perform diagnostics, procedures or therapy is not at hand when and where needed – and if it is at hand it might be at low battery or maintenance levels. This is because doctors or nurses or support staff is not around when needed, resulting in risks for patients, procrastination of procedures, and prolonged hospital stays. This is also because patients have left their assigned space in the ER or on the ward to wander around (eg. in search of a smoking place, food or anything else).

Actual Challenge

How can the medical setting in an ER or an acute therapeutic environment be designed much more like a pit crew that is proverbial for formula one and a showcase for any process optimization to ensure that the customer (in this case the patient) is really in the middle?
